English Manor House

The other day I went to Ham House in Richmond. According to the guide, visitors can't decide whether the manor's garden is "plain" or "boring." This is a bad way to start a tour.

The first stop was a cherry orchard with no cherry trees.

Inside the house had many rooms. One vestibule had dozens of buckets hung from nails on the ceiling. The woman responsible for renovating the house died penniless and alone, embroiled in lawsuits.

Good.
